WORKSHOPS & SEMINARS

Learning Beyond the Classroom

For Madhulita Mohapatra and the Academy under her leadership, learning is a lifelong part of being an artist. Her own journey has been shaped by the guidance of her gurus, teachers and senior practitioners, and she believes that students benefit from continuing to learn from a range of artistic voices and perspectives. With this in mind, Nrityantar regularly opens its doors to visiting gurus, dancers, musicians, scholars and critics, creating opportunities for students and practitioners to learn, exchange ideas and engage more deeply with the art form.

Workshops

Workshops offer students an opportunity to step outside their regular training and encounter different approaches to the practice of Odissi. Sessions have explored areas including nritta, abhinaya, taal and the theory and history of the form, led by senior practitioners and teachers from across the Odissi community. Over the years, Nrityantar has hosted workshops with artists including Padma Shri Guru Aruna Mohanty, Guru Sharmila Biswas, Guru Madhavi Mudgal, Guru Ratikant Mohapatra, Guru Sujata Mohapatra, Guru Sharat Das, Guru Suhagnalini Das and many others.

Seminars & Conversations

Nrityantar also creates space for discussion and reflection around the arts. Seminars, lectures and interaction sessions have brought together dancers, critics, scholars and academics to explore the history, aesthetics, practice and evolving contexts of Indian classical dance. Among those who have shared their perspectives at Nrityantar are Shri Nityananda Misra, Padma Shri Sonal Mansingh, Rahul Acharya and others. These engagements complement the discipline of regular dance training, allowing students to encounter new ideas, learn from diverse experiences and develop a deeper understanding of the tradition they are part of.
