ORIGINAL PRODUCTIONS

Over the years, Madhulita Mohapatra has created a repertoire of original productions for the Nrityantar Dance Ensemble, bringing together the classical vocabulary of Odissi with stories drawn from mythology, literature, history and spiritual traditions. Each work explores a distinct theme and narrative, shaped through choreography, music, poetry and expressive movement.

From the many facets of Krishna and the epic journeys of the Ramayana and Mahabharata to tales of love and explorations of the mystical, these productions reflect Madhulita’s interest in finding new ways to engage with enduring stories. Together, they form a growing body of work that honours the depth of the Odissi tradition while giving the ensemble its own distinctive repertoire.

Satyam Prema Amaram

True Love Never Dies

Inspired by the legendary tragic love story of Mirza and Sahiba, this is one of the best-known romances of Punjabi folklore.

The production follows two lovers and the structures that seek to keep them apart, choosing love despite the consequences. The story unfolds as one of love, longing, sacrifice and heartbreak. Satyam Prema Amaram is a reflection on the enduring nature of love. The lovers may meet a tragic end, but their story survives, reminding us that while lives are finite, love and the stories born from it can endure.
